EXPECT Malaysia's central bank to announce pretty decent growth numbers for the first quarter later in the week. Expect few to pay attention as judging by the present preoccupation, nothing is likely to dislodge controversial 1MDB from the spotlight.

If recent weeks - especially the last - were anything to go by, the debt-laden strategic investment company, and by extension, Prime Minister Najib Razak, will continue to come under intense scrutiny as they attempt to extricate themselves from the mess that is threatening an implosion within his party, Umno.
