A BILL that will grant the Land Transport Authority (LTA) powers to regulate third-party taxi booking platforms here such as Uber and GrabTaxi was passed on Monday, following the proposal of the basic regulatory framework last November.
Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew reiterated in Parliament that the proposed framework reflects the government's "light-touch approach" that balances the need for consumer protection with the flexibility for the industry to innovate and thrive.
