Budget 2016: One-off GST Voucher special cash payment for 1.4 million citizens
A one-off "GST Voucher - Cash" special payment of up to S$200 will be given to eligible Singaporeans to support them amid the current economic conditions, said Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat in Parliament on Thursday.
This initiative will benefit some 1.4 million Singaporeans and cost the government an additional S$280 million, he said during the Budget 2016 speech.
In total, eligible households can receive up to S$500 in "GST Voucher - Cash", depending on the annual value of their home as of December 31 last year.
"If our recipients spend some of these in our neighbourhood shops, it will support our local businesses as well," said Mr Heng.
