Covid-19 vaccine's in town; will hospitality, aviation workers be next in line for jabs?

WITH the first batch of Covid-19 vaccines having arrived in Singapore on Monday night, attention has now turned to who are those likely to be inoculated first, given that "frontline" workers were mentioned as among the priority groups.

Apart from healthcare, these could include staff at entry points such as the airport and sea ports, said economists and industry groups.

Singapore aims to secure enough vaccines for its population by the third quarter of 2021. On Dec 14, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said that priority will go to "those who are at greatest risk: healthcare workers and frontline personnel, as well as the elderly and vulnerable", without defining "frontline personnel".

In a Facebook post on Monday, as the first shipment of vaccines arrived at Changi Airport, the Ministry of Health said: "We will progressively vaccinate our population, starting with healthcare workers and Covid-19 frontline workers, who are at higher risk of exposure to Covid-19 and hence most in need of Covid-19 vaccination…
