Door still open for talks to avert US-China trade war

CHINA'S planned tariffs on scores of US goods still leave room for backdoor negotiations, according to analysts.
On Wednesday, as a retaliation to a similar move by the Trump administration announced just hours earlier, China said it will introduce tariffs on around US$50 billion worth of imports from the US, including on soybeans, motor vehicles and aircrafts.
That came just after the US Trade Representative (USTR) published a detailed list covering more than 1,300 product categories that will be subject to a proposed 25 per cent tariff.
