A 10 basis-point rate cut on the European Central Bank's (ECB) deposit rate is likely to come into play when the bank's policy-making body meets this week, the chief economist of Credit Agricole Private Banking has predicted.
This comes amid an increase in deposits at the ECB, despite the central bank effectively charging banks to hold them. The ECB charges an interest rate of -0.2 per cent now.
