THE Energy Market Authority (EMA) and green-tech solutions provider Envision Digital have inked a memorandum of agreement on a S$4 million partnership to develop local expertise in green-technology solutions.

The partnership will focus on developing local companies' capabilities in renewable energy, urban energy efficiency and low-carbon solutions in support of Singapore's net-zero carbon emissions ambitions.

Enterprise Singapore (ESG) is supporting the partnership under its "Open Innovation" initiative, which uses demand from government agencies and business corporations to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and startups in developing innovative solutions.

Jeffrey Siow, managing director and chief operating officer of ESG, said: "Through this Open Innovation initiative, our startups and SMEs can testbed their solutions with prominent industry players, gain experience and build track records that will help them market their solutions outside Singapore."

The green-tech solutions provider has launched a Net Zero Startup challenge, targeted at startups and SMEs to develop and grow their business and capabilities in the clean-energy space. Selected companies will be mentored by Envision Digital and will be able to onboard their solutions on the green-tech company's operating system to expand their solution's reach internationally.

Lei Zhang, founder and chief executive officer of Envision Group, said: "With climate change a pressing issue impacting Singapore as a low-lying island, we see this partnership as crucial for the community here."

Proposals will be assessed based on the level of innovation, commercial viability and how it meets Singapore's national and industry needs under the Singapore Green Plan 2030.

Keppel Infrastructure has also tied up with Envision Digital to testbed energy solutions from this programme at their sites.

Ngiam Shih Chun, chief executive of EMA, said: "Technological innovation plays an important role in creating an energy system that is flexible and resilient as we undergo the transition towards cleaner energy."
