No ERP charges until at least June 28: LTA

ELECTRONIC Road Pricing (ERP) will continue to be suspended until June 28, even as Singapore embarks on the first phase of reopening its economy, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said.

ERP charging could resume from June 29 following an ERP rate review that LTA said will resume from June 2.

There has been no ERP charging since early April, when Singapore entered a "circuit-breaker" period that saw the closure of non-essential businesses in the country's effort to slow the transmission of Covid-19. At that time, LTA said ERP charging is expected to resume when the extended "circuit-breaker" period ends on June 1.

Schools and some workplaces are set to reopen as the "circuit breaker" comes to an end, which means traffic volume is also expected to increase.

The authorities said on Sunday that it will resume the ERP review process from June 2 and monitor traffic speeds and congestion levels, in line with the ERP's purpose as a "congestion management tool".

It added that ERP rate reviews have traditionally been adjusted on a quarterly basis. However, it will shorten this frequency to once every four weeks due to the evolving Covid-19 situation, in order to be more responsive to changes in traffic conditions and congestions.

The outcome of the first post-circuit breaker ERP rate review will be announced in the fourth week of June, and the appropriate ERP rates, if any will take effect from June 29, LTA said.
