THE Department of Statistics Singapore (DOS) announced on Friday that data users can look forward to free access to some 12,000 statistical data series on the SingStat website from March 1, 2015.

The data series spans multiple topics within the themes of population and economy. This is in line with the government's plan to make more data available to the public.

In tandem with aspirations to build Singapore into a smart nation, the Department will make more data, including about 5,000 more data series, available for free on the SingStat website (www.singstat.gov.sg) and the government's Open Data Portal (www.data.gov.sg).

"The free access to more data, especially historical time series data, will encourage research and lead to better planning, more informed decision-making and the creation of new solutions," said DOS.

Through www.singstat.gov.sg/tablebuilder, users can customise data tables, view the data in chart form, and download the data in reader-friendly formats for further analyses.

Apart from the online statistical database, the website also contains a wealth of statistical information disseminated in various forms, including publications, analytical papers and infographics, to cater to a diverse group of data users.
