GE2015: Last election's top scorer Amy Khor wins Hong Kah North again

[SINGAPORE] At Hong Kah North Single Member Constituency (SMC), Senior Minister of State for Health and Manpower Amy Khor beat Singapore People's Party's Ravi Philemon 74.76 per cent to 25.24 per cent.

In 2011, she had garnered a vote share of 70.61 per cent, making her the "top scorer" among PAP's candidates.

Her rival, social worker Ravi Philemon, had earlier said he would lobby for more bus services and a top-up of 30 years to the lease of older flats in the area. He had also promised to set up a S$500,000 Hong Kah North Medical Assistance Fund.

His other proposals for unemployment insurance, a pension scheme, and for Singaporeans to get first priority for jobs were shot down by Dr Khor at a PAP rally on Wednesday.

Mr Philemon quit his job as director of voluntary welfare organisation Operation Hope Foundation as his employment contract barred him from contesting the elections. He has worked 25 years in the social services sector.

In 2011, he was campaign manager for lawyer Jeannette Chong-Aruldoss, then a member of the National Solidarity Party (NSP). He formally joined the NSP about a year later, but switched to the SPP this March after a failed attempt to become its secretary-general.
