GE2015: Three-way fight at Radin Mas SMC

(SINGAPORE) It will be a three-way fight at Radin Mas SMC in the 2015 General Election.

The People's Action Party (PAP) incumbent, Minister of State Sam Tan, will face the Reform Party's (RP's) Kumar Appavoo and independent candidate Han Hui Hui.

Ms Han, a blogger, was the first contestant to arrive at the Bendemeer Primary School nomination centre at around 9.30am, accompanied by a few supporters and with a young girl in hand, said to be a neighbour's child. Several elderly folk, who said they were her relatives, arrived soon after.

RP's Mr Appavoo, a director in an oil and gas company, is one of his party's 12 candidates for the 2015 GE.

Earlier there was talk about a second independent candidate vying for the Radin Mas seat, but the prospects of a 4-cornered battle soon fizzled out.

Addressing the mostly-white crowd of supporters, PAP's Mr Tan asked for a strong mandate to implement his third five-year plan for the constituency.

Meanwhile, also at the same nomination centre, the PAP quartet defending Jalan Besar GRC is a team of seasoned contestants - minister Yaacob Ibrahim, Heng Chee How, Lily Neo and Denise Phua.

Their Workers Party rivals came up with a small but vociferous contingent of supporters. The WP candidates are L Somasundaram, Frieda Chan (both of whom contested the 2011 GE), Adrian Sim Tian Hock and Redzwan Hafidz.
