GE2020: PAP Amy Khor wins Hong Kah North SMC for the third time with 60.98% of the votes

The People's Action Party's (PAP) Amy Khor scored her third straight win in Hong Kah North SMC, winning 60.98 per cent of the 27,188 votes cast in a straight fight with Gigene Wong of the Progress Singapore Party.

Her 54-year-old opponent managed to attract 39.02 per cent of the votes in her first general election.

Hong Kah North has 28,071 registered voters. The 96.6 per cent turnout at the election was a slight dip from the 2015 general election, when 97.9 per cent of the registered voters turning up. Votes rejected in the latest election numbered 403.

Dr Khor, 62, who is Senior Minister of State for Health and Environment and Water Resources, captured 74.76 per cent of the votes in the 2015 General Election to remain the MP for the SMC. She was first elected in Hong Kah GRC in 2001 and got re-elected in the GRC in 2006. Hong Koh North was carved out as a SMC in the 2011 General Election. Dr Khor, as PAP's candidate for the SMC, won it by 70.61 per cent of the votes cast.
