GE2020: PAP retains Yuhua SMC with 70.54% of votes
THE People's Action Party (PAP) incumbent candidate Grace Fu has retained Yuhua single member constituency (SMC) with 70.54 per cent of the vote, beating first-time contender Robin Low from the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP).
PAP secured 14,111 votes, versus SDP's 5,894 votes. 406 votes were rejected.
There were 20,411 votes cast by electors in this SMC.
In 2015, Ms Fu held on to the ward with 73.6 per cent of the vote, also against the SDP, which then fielded Jaslyn Go.
Ms Fu, who held the post of Minister for Culture, Community and Youth before Parliament was dissolved, has been representing the ward since 2006 when it was part of the Jurong GRC. The ward was carved out as a SMC in 2011.
Yuhua SMC has had a female MP since 1984. It was first represented by ex-PAP MP Yu-Foo Yee Shoon, before Ms Fu took over in 2006.
