Germany to classify Singapore as 'high-risk area' from Oct 24

SINGAPORE will be classified as a high-risk area for Germany starting Sunday (Oct 24), the German Embassy Singapore announced on Friday (Oct 22) in a Facebook post.

Although fully vaccinated people can still enter Germany quarantine-free, they must complete digital entry registration via www.einreiseanmeldung.de before entry. The German embassy said this is mandatory for all travellers.

Unvaccinated children under 12 years of age will need to isolate themselves at home for 5 days under quarantine.

Germany's announcement comes as Singapore reports Covid-19-related deaths for its 33rd day in a row. On Friday, there were 3,637 new Covid-19 infections in total and 14 deaths reported. The total number of cases in Singapore now stands at 165,663.

It has been over a month since Germany and Singapore announced their vaccinated travel lane agreement, where fully vaccinated travellers arriving from Germany on designated vaccinated travel lanes (VTL) flights can undergo a testing regime in lieu of serving a stay-home notice.

Under the VTL, vaccinated travellers from Singapore do not have to serve a quarantine in Germany either.

Germany and Brunei were the first two countries that Singapore launched its VTL with on Sep 8. The Republic subsequently announced VTLs with South Korea, France, Denmark, Italy, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Spain, the United States and Canada.
