Higher wages, better career progression for landscape workers

SOME 3,000 resident landscape maintenance workers will get higher wages, better skills training and a clearer career progression path from next year, with the launch of the progressive wage model for the landscape industry on Friday.

The progressive wage model stipulates a basic minimum wage of S$1,300 for full-time landscape workers who are Singaporeans or permanent residents. That is a 30 per cent bump from the present median basic wage, which has remained at around S$1,000 since 2009.

The minimum basic pay will increase as a worker becomes better skilled, more productive and takes on higher responsibilities. The wage model has four stages, as workers progress from landscape worker to supervisor. Landscape supervisors will take home at least S$2,100.…
