Itemised payslips, detailed employment records a must from April 1 next year
EMPLOYERS who commit breaches such as not issuing itemised payslips and not keeping detailed employment records are liable to be fined after changes to the Employment Act were passed by Parliament. The changes come into effect on April 1 next year, but the Manpower Ministry will allow a one-year grace period in view of strong feedback from smaller SMEs that will be most affected by the new rules.
The ministry also clarified that employers have to pay their staff holiday rates of pay or give them a day off if they have to work on non-scheduled public holidays declared by the government, such as the one-off SG50 holiday and Polling Day.
