PRIME Minister Narendra Modi's administration plans to ask Indian lawmakers later this year for about 250 billion rupees (S$5 billion) more to cover a proposed salary increase, according to Finance Ministry officials with knowledge of the matter.
The federal budget unveiled last month has accounted for about 70 per cent of the 1.02 trillion rupees salary hike proposed by a pay panel, said the officials, who asked not to be identified because they weren't authorised to speak with the media.
