Japanese firms turn less bullish about expansion plans in Asia

Ratio of firms planning to expand in China, Indonesia, Thailand and Cambodia falls in latest Jetro survey amid concerns over higher wages

JAPANESE companies operating in Asia are less bullish about their expansion plans for the new year than they were in 2015, especially with regard to China but also where Indonesia, Thailand and Cambodia are concerned, according to the Japan External Trade Organization (Jetro).

A survey last month by the semi-government organisation of Japanese firms operating in 20 markets of the region showed that rising wage costs are a primary concern.
