Mexico looks East in face of Trump's protectionist policies

Singapore could use Mexico as industrial platform and source of infrastructure projects to access Latin America

US President Donald Trump's protectionist policies have spurred Mexico to look East to Singapore for foreign investment to drive growth.

Based on feedback on the ground, Mexican businesses see Singapore as a gateway into Asia, said International Enterprise (IE) Singapore's Mexico centre director Francisco Rios.

Mexican officials are also keen to explore bilateral economic collaborations with Singapore in view of the state of Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP).

"We should expect that to happen relatively fast, since a lot of the terms have already been negotiated with the TPP," said Mr Rios.
