MND appeals against court ruling on AHPETC issue
Ministry advised by AGC to file appeal for the appointment of independent accountants
Singapore
THE Ministry of National Development (MND) on Friday filed an appeal against a High Court judgment that had turned down the government's application to appoint independent accountants to Aljunied-Hougang-Punggol East Town Council (AHPETC), which is run by the opposition Workers' Party.
In a statement released on Friday, an MND spokesman said: "The Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) has advised MND that an appeal should be filed, for the appointment of independent accountants. The appointment of independent accountants will allow the government to immediately disburse grants to AHPETC, in the interest of residents, while ensuring that these public funds are adequately safeguarded.
