Muhyiddin getting set to challenge Najib?
His weekend remarks seem calculated to distance himself from the embattled prime minister
Kuala Lumpur
MALAYSIA'S Deputy Premier Muhyiddin Yassin, in comments interpreted as a move to distance himself from the fallout over 1MDB, reiterated over the weekend that the onus was now on Prime Minister Najib Razak to explain the problems at the scandal-ridden strategic development company.
Analysts say there is increasing ground support for Mr Muhyiddin, who is also Education minister and deputy president of Malaysia's dominant political party Umno (United Malays National Organisation), but whether the groundswell will pick up sufficiently to tilt him towards the top post remains to be seen.
