FORMER Speaker of Parliament Halimah Yacob, who hopes to become Singapore's next President, maintains she is standing for election as an independent and that her loyalty lies only with Singapore and its people.
"Whatever I have done has always been putting the interests of people first, rather than looking at party colours," said the 63-year-old at a news conference on Tuesday as she unveiled her campaign slogan and introduced key members of her campaign team.
