Presidential race shaping up to be a rematch between Jokowi and Prabowo

THE next presidential election in Indonesia may still be more than a year away but the race is already fast shaping up to be a rematch between incumbent Joko Widodo and his previous challenger, former special forces general Prabowo Subianto.
Last Sunday, Jakarta governor Anies Baswedan confirmed he would not stand for election as president when Indonesians go to the polls in 2019 to choose their next leader.
Elected in a landslide last year on a wave of support from Muslim conservatives eager to oust his Christian predecessor, some wondered whether Mr Anies had the momentum to press on to the presidential palace.
