Programme launched to develop mid-career management accountants

A PROFESSIONAL Conversion Programme (PCP) has been launched to help local mid-career individuals with accounting background become management accountants.
The PCP for Management Accountants (PCP-MA) will equip them with management skills, deeper data analytical capabilities and new technological tools for accounting.
This programme is aligned with the Accountancy Roadmap, part of the Industry Transformation Map for Professional Services, which aims to develop a sustainable pipeline of accounting talents by preparing accounting professionals for new roles in the digital economy.
The 10-month programme includes classroom and on-the-job training. Participants will be placed in paid full-time jobs with participating employers during the programme.
Besides becoming management accountants, participants can also build careers as business analysts or take on roles in financial planning analysis.
The programme is open to Singaporeans or Permanent Residents newly hired by firms for management accounting functions but who do not have experience in management accounting. Participants must also have a diploma or degree in accountancy or will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
The PCP-MA was developed by Workforce Singapore, the Singapore Accountancy Commission, the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and Singapore Polytechnic (SP).
Upon completion, participants will be awarded SP's Certificate in Enhanced Skills in Management Accounting and CIMA's Diploma in Management Accounting.
Tan Choon Shian, WSG's chief executive said: "As companies undergo transformation to keep pace with the ongoing economic transformation, there is an increase in demand to use financial data to forecast and guide business decisions. The launch of the PCP for Management Accountants will enable our local accounting professionals to respond more nimbly to these shifts in the workplace and stay relevant to meet the demands of the business."
The PCP-MA was officially launched by Josephine Teo, Minister for Manpower and Second Minister for Home Affairs, at the CIMA centenary gala dinner on Thursday. It was attended by representatives of CIMA and the accountancy sector.
