THREE candidates were left standing on Wednesday as nominations for the position to become Hong Kong's next leader closed, marking the beginning of what analysts say will be a closely-fought, but ultimately predictable, election.
The contenders this time around - former financial secretary John Tsang, former chief secretary Carrie Lam and retired judge Woo Kwok-hing - have comparable lengthy histories in public service, which could make for one of Hong Kong's most competitive races for the chief executive post, said political analyst Chung Kim-wah.
