THE People's Action Party will still be introducing candidates for a few remaining group representative constituencies after Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong delivers his National Day Rally speech this Sunday.

Organising secretary Ng Eng Hen said in a press statement on Monday: "There will be a slight pause, appropriate after PM's speech at the NDR, after which the PAP will present the remaining slate of candidates in that week, for the coming GE." Dr Ng, who is the Minister of Defence, said that the ruling party's move to unveil its candidates from Aug 12 "till National Day Rally, or so", spread out at a steady pace to allow residents enough time to digest the announcements, has proceeded well.

"It has achieved our purpose of providing more information to residents to make an informed choice of which candidates can take better care of their interest over the next five years," he said.

Dr Ng is the anchor minister for Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC, the first PAP ward to present its candidates last Wednesday. Since then, the PAP has revealed its candidates for six GRCs and four Single Member Constituencies. Apart from Bishan-Toa Payoh, the other five GRCs where the PAP has shown its hand are Sembawang, Ang Mo Kio, Chua Chu Kang, Jalan Besar and West Coast. The SMCs were Hougang, Sengkang West, Pioneer and Potong Pasir.
