MORE than just easing traffic congestion on the Causeway, a cross-border train service between Singapore and Johor Bahru could increase business links between the two cities and allow Malaysian day workers to commute more quickly to Singapore, observers told The Business Times.

Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and his Malaysian counterpart Muhyiddin Yassin met at the Causeway on Thursday to mark the resumption of the long-awaited Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link project. Officials from both countries remained on their respective sides of the Causeway during the ceremony, which was streamed live on Mr Lee's Facebook page.
