A S$5,000 sign-on bonus will be dangled before ITE and polytechnic hospitality graduates when a work-study scheme is launched next year, specially for the hotel sector. This "Earn-and-Learn" Programme, part of the SkillsFuture movement, will also give hotels up to S$15,000 for each participant signed up under it.

SkillsFuture is the national movement launched this year to give Singaporeans opportunities to develop their potential to the fullest throughout life. Sector-specific plans called Sectoral Manpower Plans (SMPs) are a key thrust under SkillsFuture. The SMP for hotels, rolled out by Manpower Minister Lim Swee Say on Friday, is the first one; SMPs for other sectors - social services, early childhood care and education, healthcare, retail and food services, and biopharmaceutical sectors - will follow in the next few years.
