POLICE have confirmed that the Sydney cafe siege is over, after storming the premises early on Tuesday morning. Australian broadcaster ABC said that two people died, while another three were seriously injured in the dramatic rescue effort. It was unclear if the gunman was among the dead.
Reporters near the scene earlier heard a series of loud bangs and yelling as police moved in after several more hostages ran out of the building in the city centre and medics moved in to help.
