GE2015: PAP retains MacPherson SMC as Tin Pei Ling garners nearly two-thirds of votes
[SINGAPORE] Tin Pei Ling retained single-member consituency (SMC) MacPherson for the People's Action Party with 65.58 per cent of the votes in the final tally.
Bernard Chen from the Workers' Party (WP) won 33.6 per cent of the votes while National Solidarity Party's (NSP) Cheo Chai Chen earned just 0.82 per cent of the votes.
There were 26,268 votes, of which 415 were spoilt votes.
During the campaign, Mr Cheo - a former Nee Soon Central MP - raised eyebrows for claiming that Ms Tin's role as a new mother was a weakeness as it would distract her from her work, a comment he later dismissed it as a "joke".
While MacPherson was part of the Marine Parade Group Representation Constituency (GRC) in the last GE and was carved out as an SMC this time around, the ward is traditionally a PAP stronghold.
