GE2015: PAP wins Chua Chu Kang GRC by wider margin
[SINGAPORE] The People's Action Party (PAP) team in Chua Chu Kang has won the group representation constituency (GRC) again, this time with a bigger share of 76.89 per cent.
The anchor minister is Gan Kim Yong, also Singapore's health minister. His team mates are Parliamentary Secretary Low Yen Ling; Ernst and Young director Zaqy Mohamad; and head of Catalist at CIMB Bank Singapore Yee Chia Hsing.
They had rivalled and beaten a People's Power Party (PPP) team led by opposition veteran Goh Meng Seng, who had contested before in Tampines GRC in 2011, and in Aljunied GRC in 2006. Also in Mr Goh's team are finance manager Low Wai Choo; property consultant Lee Tze Shih; and managing consultant Syafarin Sarif. Mr Goh is himself the managing director of a group of market research and linguistics companies.
PPP is the newest of opposition parties in Singapore, founded only this year. Being the smallest, it is also fielding in only one GRC this time.
In 2011, the PAP won 61.2 per cent of the vote against a National Solidarity Party (NSP) team made up of candidates Sebastian Teo, Tony Tan, Hazel Poa, Jeisilan Sivalingam and Nor Lella Mardiiiah.
The former five-member GRC lost the Yew Tee ward to Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC in boundary changes this year.
