GE2015: PAP's Sitoh Yih Pin wins Potong Pasir with 66.41 per cent of votes
[SINGAPORE] The People's Action Party (PAP) Sitoh Yih Pin retained Single-Member Constituency (SMC) Potong Pasir with 66.41 per cent of the vote, with a strong win over Singapore People's Party candidate Lina Chiam.
Mrs Chiam won 33.59 per cent of votes in the 2015 general election.
15,934 votes were cast, of which 224 were spoilt.
1,249 registered voters did not show, translating to a turnout of 92.82 per cent.
Mr Sitoh saw a stronger victory this time around vis-a-vis the 2011 General Election (GE), where he narrowly won by a small margin.
Mrs Chiam is the wife of veteran opposition politician Chiam See Tong, who was an member of parliament (MP) of Potong Pasir for 27 years. He did not run in this election.
A three-cornered fight was narrowly averted in Potong Pasir this year after independent candidate Tan Lam Siong pulled out of the running on Nomination Day, leaving incumbent Mr Sitoh and Mrs Chiam to duke it out in a repeat of the 2011 elections.
