GE2015: Tanjong Pagar GRC to see first contest in 27 years

[SINGAPORE] Tanjong Pagar GRC will see its first electoral contest in close to 30 years, with the PAP squaring off against a Singaporeans First (SingFirst) team led by ex-senior civil servant Tan Jee Say.
The two teams sprang no surprises in their lineups.
The 5-member PAP team led by Chan Chun Sing, Minister in the Prime Minister's Office and labour chief, includes two newcomers -- former senior police officer Melvin Yong and ex-public servant Joan Pereira. Senior Minister of State Indranee Rajah, the longest-serving incumbent in the team, and Chia Shi-Lu, a surgeon, round up the PAP slate. Former PM Lee Kuan Yew had been the Tanjong Pagar MP since 1955 until his death in March this year.
SingFirst is one of the newest political parties in Singapore, registered just a year ago. But Mr Tan and teammate Ang Yong Guan both contested the 2011 GE under the Singapore Democratic Party banner. The other three members - Chirag Desai, Fahmi Rais and Melvyn Chiu - are making their GE debut.
