Singapore looking forward to resuming close connectivity with Australia: PM Lee

SINGAPORE looks forward to resuming close connectivity with Australia, as the Republic moves towards an endemic Covid-19 future, said Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in a Facebook post on Friday (Oct 22) morning.

This comes as Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison on Friday said his country is in the final stages of concluding a quarantine-free travel bubble with Singapore, and that it could be established within next week.

Mr Lee said he was "delighted to hear that Australia will be allowing entry to visa holders from Singapore", adding that he had encouraged Mr Morrison to do so when he visited the Republic in June.

Mr Lee noted that the two countries have robust economic and investment links, and warm people-to-people ties.

The initial plan of the travel bubble is to allow vaccinated students and business travellers to fly between the 2 countries, before opening up to tourists, The Sydney Morning Herald reported.

The arrangement would also depend on the quarantine restrictions of individual states.
