Singapore sets up SG Clean Taskforce in fight against Covid-19

It will focus on cleanliness of public spaces, encouraging good personal hygiene and promoting adjustment of social norms

SINGAPORE authorities are stepping up public hygiene standards in the latest salvo against the coronavirus outbreak, acknowledging that border controls may eventually become less effective.

This comes as confirmed Covid-19 cases worldwide cross 100,000, with numbers increasing rapidly outside China, where the coronavirus originated in late December.

"There will be undetected cases everywhere in the world, and we cannot isolate ourselves from the world. So as border controls become less effective, we have to double our efforts within Singapore," Lawrence Wong, National Development Minister and co-chair of a multi-ministry task force set up to deal with the outbreak, said during a press conference on Friday.
