Singapore's factory output up 13.1% in June; electronics remains star performer

SINGAPORE'S total industrial output went up 13.1 per cent in June compared to a year ago, as the electronics cluster continued to be the star performer.
Excluding biomedical manufacturing, output grew 11.9 per cent year-on-year.
On a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis, manufacturing output expanded by 9.7 per cent in June 2017. Excluding biomedical manufacturing, output grew 4 per cent.
The output of the electronics cluster jumped 25.5 per cent in June year-on-year, mainly due to the semiconductors segment which posted a robust growth of 37.4 per cent.
The biomedical manufacturing cluster went up by 18.3 per cent in June compared to a year ago, driven by growth in the pharmaceuticals and medical technology segments.
The other clusters, including chemicals, precision engineering and transport engineering, all recorded increases in output. The only exception is general manufacturing industries, which fell 5.3 per cent in June 2017, with all segments recording declines.
