SkillsFuture to roll out training courses with Johnson Controls, Ngee Ann Poly

SKILLSFUTURE Singapore (SSG) announced on Friday that it is partnering Johnson Controls and Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) to roll out new courses as part of the SGUnited Jobs and Skills Package targeted at mid-career jobseekers.

In its press statement, SSG said the first course, titled SGUnited Mid-Career Pathways Programme - Company Training for Digital Transformation in the Built Environment, will be conducted in partnership with Johnson Controls, a smart building management solutions provider, and NP for up to 100 mid-career jobseekers.

The course will equip participants with digital and smart facilities management skills in key areas such as building services management, green building management, and workplace health and safety.

The course's six-month curriculum will be split into three months of classroom training co-delivered by Johnson Controls and NP, as well as a three-month attachment hosted by Johnson Controls thereafter. The company will also provide employment facilitation as part of the course.

Participants will gain essential skills for emerging job roles such as smart facilities manager, digital customer success manager and project manager through the course, SSG said.

The course's subsidised fee of S$500 can be offset with participants' SkillsFuture credit, and they will also receive a monthly training allowance of S$1,500.

Aside from the built environment sector, SSG is also launching another course with NP, called the Global Tech Talent Programme.

Participants of the six-month course will gain skills related to both digitalisation and internationalisation so that they can support companies in their overseas operations.

They will be trained in programming languages such as Python and Javascript for front-end and back-end web development as part of three months of classroom training curated by NP. After that, participants will undergo a three-month overseas apprenticeship at companies in the technology and e-commerce sectors. Depending on the prevailing travel restrictions due to Covid-19, remote apprenticeships may be conducted instead.

Skills gained from the course will be relevant for job roles such as software engineer, application developer and full-stack developer, said SSG. Selected candidates may also be offered jobs in their apprenticeship companies when they complete the programme.

Similarly, the subsidised programme will cost S$500 that can be offset with SkillsFuture credit, while each participant will receive a monthly training allowance of S$1,200. Registrations for the programme will open in the third quarter of this year.

Chief executive of SSG Ong Tze-Ch'in said that the agency is pleased to partner both stakeholders to roll out the two courses.

"SSG will continue to expand the list of courses and partner companies to provide more quality industry-relevant career transition opportunities for mid-career jobseekers," he said.
