TPP likely to be ratified by US: former trade official

THE Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement will very probably be ratified by the United States in the likely event that Democratic Party candidate Hillary Clinton wins next month's US presidential election, a former senior US trade official suggested in Tokyo on Wednesday.

Even if the agreement fails to pass in the "lame duck" session of the US Congress, between the end of current president Barack Obama's term and a new president taking office, it will probably be "modified" to make it acceptable to a Clinton administration, said Glen Fukushima.
