TEN Tory candidates - out of an original list of 13 hopefuls - have passed the first hurdle to become Britain's next prime minister.

Each has the support of a minimum of eight MPs representing a Conservative party with a minority government. In a series of votes starting on Thursday, Tory MPs will choose the final two candidates from those who passed the first hurdle.
