FORMER Thai prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has hit out at the current government's controversial rice pledging scheme and its decision to borrow two trillion baht (S$79.5 billion) to finance infrastructure projects in South-east Asia's second-largest economy.

Speaking at an event in Singapore yesterday, the 49-year-old opposition leader warned that these two policies of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra's administration "could undermine Thailand's economic and political prospects" in the years to come.
