[SINGAPORE] Airbus firmed up a deal for 20 A380s worth US$8.3 billion at list prices with leasing company Amedeo at the Singapore Airshow yesterday. Amedeo, formerly known as Doric Lease Corp, had placed a provisional order with the planemaker last year at the Paris Airshow. Customers typically get discounts off the list price for large purchases. "This firm order from Amedeo is a clear recognition of the A380's long-term market appeal," said John Leahy, Airbus chief operating officer, customers. Amedeo will take delivery of the planes between 2016 and 2020. It will announce its engine choice at a later date.
"As world traffic continues to double every fifteen years and airport infrastructure and slots do not, the A380 is the best solution for airlines to capture that growth and build passenger loyalty," said Mark Lapidus, CEO of Amedeo. According to Mr Leahy, Airbus is targeting 30 orders overall for the A380 this year. "That seems to be reasonable, that seems to be what the market wants." To date, more than 120 A380s have joined the global fleet, according to Airbus.
