AS news of the downed Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 reverberated around the world, airlines moved swiftly to re-route flight paths and avoid Ukrainian airspace.

Carriers, including Singapore Airlines, Thai Airways, Lufthansa and Air France, have re-routed flights, which could tack on additional flight time and fuel costs, resulting in flight delays. Thai Airways reportedly expects flight delays of up to half an hour for flights to and from Europe.
