Asia's infrastructure challenge
Continuous hard work, strategic investments and regional cooperation are required to accommodate the staggering number of new travellers.
ON Monday, representatives from across the aviation value chain - airlines, airports, air navigation service providers, manufacturers and governments - will meet at the Singapore Airshow Aviation Leadership Summit. Their mission is to help the aviation industry to realise new ambitions.
Already aviation plays the critical role of linking economies, connecting people and supporting global supply chains. Globally, the industry supports some 59 million jobs and US$2.2 trillion in economic activity. The vital role that aviation plays in the Asia-Pacific is seen in 24 million jobs and US$500 billion of business.
What's the potential? It's big. By 2034 we expect seven billion people to fly - about double the 3.8 billion predicted to take to the skies this year. That growth will also see the industry shift its centre of gravity eastward. By 2034 one in five air travellers will be travelling to, from or within China. And by far, the Asia-Pacific will be the biggest market for global aviation.
