Aspire proposals lauded; challenges seen

[SINGAPORE] Members of Parliament on Monday lauded the principles behind the proposals set out by the Applied Study in Polytechnics and Institute of Technical Education Review (Aspire) committee, but cautioned that the success of the scheme hinged greatly on its implementation.

Denise Phua (Moulmein-Kallang) believes the Aspire proposals will help to address "the potential problem of an over-supply of graduates" in Singapore.

She added that if Aspire were to succeed, it would help academic "outliers who did not tread the usual graduate academic pathway" by guiding, facilitating, recognising and rewarding them for what they bring to the table.
