CORE consumer prices in Tokyo have jumped by 2.7 per cent this month compared with their level a year ago, marking their biggest increase in 22 years, according to data released yesterday.
But the increase is a result of a consumption tax hike implemented on April 1 rather than a signal that the Bank of Japan's annual inflation target of 2 per cent is within reach.
