DATA science and cybersecurity apply across all industries and the Committee on the Future Economy's (CFE) proposal to develop capabilities in these two areas will strengthen the country's economic infrastructure, industry practitioners and observers say.

Singapore can use analytics and cybersecurity as basic utilities to support both traditional businesses and emerging fields such as fintech, and is also poised to venture beyond data science into artificial intelligence (AI), they add.

But they also say that to successfully build strong, potentially exportable expertise in data science and cybersecurity, organisations here must embrace a mindset of curiosity and acceptance of failure, and be collaborative and open especially when it comes to new technologies.
