LOOKING back at what Singapore has achieved over the past 50 years, it is certainly not hyperbole to call our success an inspiring rags-to-riches story. Within this period, we have transformed from a backwater trading post to a world renowned business hub that is able to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the economic giants of the world.
Many industries have contributed to the economic miracle that we have achieved. Although sectors such as electronics, financial services and IT have been critical in helping Singapore establish its success, one can argue that logistics has had one of the most impacts on our growth. As we celebrate Singapore's 50th birthday this year, it is pertinent for us to look at the role that the logistics sector has had over the last five decades and see how it will continue to function as the lifeblood of our economy in future.
