Fund manager aims to transform Asia forestry sector

IT SEEMS counter-intuitive to pay for and maintain a piece of land, and use only a fraction of it as a plantation. But forestry investment manager New Forests hopes to change this mindset, as it looks to invest a US$170 million fund in sustainable Asian forestry.
The Australia-based firm, which has over A$2.8 billion (S$2.8 billion) in assets under management, manages forestry investments in Australia and New Zealand, the United States, and South-east Asia.
