THIS WEEK'S TOPIC: What would it take for Singapore sportsmen and women to excel, beyond the regional level, at the bigger Asian and world stage?
Cynthia Stuckey Managing Director Forum Asia-Pacific
WHAT Singapore athletes demonstrated in the recent SEA Games is exactly what successful business leaders possess and hone every single day: discipline, motivation and technique. Now, bigger arenas and the world stage await. The first step is to acknowledge the challenge and rise up to it. Singapore sportsmen and women should train with an eye to winning the titles; to focus on fields that they are strongly placed to compete, be deliberate about the focus of their coaching, and strive to continually learn and refine technique. It will take motivation, as well as funding for increased training, to develop individual and team strengths to reach their full potential. The journey ahead will be difficult, but much like Singapore's path towards international economic success, is one that is achievable. So long as Singapore keeps its characteristic competitive spirit and national pride alive, nothing is impossible.
