Govt to launch electricity futures market trial next year
It's also considering having an electricity demand response scheme in 2015
[SINGAPORE] To ensure electricity prices here remain competitive, Singapore intends to launch an electricity futures market trial next year, with target implementation in the second half of 2014, depending on the trial's outcome, said S Iswaran, Minister in the Prime Minister's Office.
It is also considering having an electricity demand response scheme - where consumers can curb demand when prices are high - in 2015.
Disclosing these timelines at the opening of the Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) yesterday, Mr Iswaran, who is also Second Minister for Home Affairs and Trade & Industry, said that in the case of the futures market, six gencos have indicated their interest to work with Singapore Exchange (SGX) on this.
